RAF Hangar-Diamond Hill

The ex-RAF hangar next to Diamond Hill MTR station has now been hidden from view  at the Exit 'A' path by contractors as they start clearing the site for the Shatin to Central line project. The ultimate fate of this WW2 relic is not known, although there have been attempts to preserve it in some way.

On a visit to the Imperial War Museum collection at Duxford, Cambridgeshire, UK  today, the Hong Kong Spitfire is still looking good.

Notes from IDJ:

This block stood on Homantin Hill Road above Homantin Street. The white sign-board at the fence-line denoted it as UK Ministry of Defence property. It is thought to have been the location of RAF Homantin just after the war.

This block stood on Homantin Hill Road above Homantin Street. The white sign-board at the fence-line denoted it as UK Ministry of Defence property. It is thought to have been the location of RAF Homantin just after the war. Rumour had it that it was the scene of many Japanese atrocities during the war and the building and grounds were haunted.

Bamboo matshed Hangar fires were common before the permanent steel hangar was built for the RAF at the eastern end of the airport.
