There was some discussion on the possibility of rail travel between Hong Kong and the UK a while ago.

Even if you could not go all the way on a train at least Thomas Cook's could book you the journey

Gloucester Building Clock Tower - 1932

Close-up photo of the the tall and prominent clock tower of Gloucester Building in 1932. The tower clock had four-faces with 10ft diameter illluminated dials, visible form far away. The Telechron sysyem employed to drive the hands ensured that all four dials were  electrically synchronzied and constroled from  a master clock located in a control room. Photograph of the Hong Kong central business district from the hillside , showing the then very prominent Gloucester Building, shortly after its completion in 1932. The tall clock tower dominated the scene, with its large four-faced 10 ft-diameter  illiminated clock dials visiible from virtually the whole of Mid-Levels.

Photo made by Willem Kien, director at Holland-China Trading Company (HCHC), which was Charles Gesner van der Voort’s (1916-1991) employer. The company had offices in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Guangzhou (Canton) and Tientsin (Tianjin).

Hong Kong Telephone Company's Exhibit at the British Empire Fair in 1933

This photo shows a booth set up to promote teleprinter and telephone services and products available from the Hong Kong Telephone Company in the early 1930s. A British Empire Fair was held in Hong Kong from 24-27 May 1933 and during this time there were also various large exhibits including aircraft on display in the carpark opposite the Peninsula Hotel at Tsim Sha Tsui.  The ornately decorated ceiling and beams above the booth clearly suggest that this exhibit was located in the ground-floor lobby of the Peninsula Hotel .

This building constructed c. 1930 pre-dates  the Hongkong Telephone Company's   "Telephone House" which was completed in December 1948. on the corner of  Nathan and Cameron Roads.
