James Steven visited Hong Kong in 1908. He was on a world trip part pleasure, part business for his father's firm, Steven & Struthers, a Glasgow brassfounders, that sold brass and bronze ships' chandlery, propellers, pumps, and lighthouse lanterns world-wide. A photo album on which this photo is on the cover, is from 1918. Gwulo member moddsey helped me establish a date for this photo: ca. 1907. On the left John's Cathedral can be seen and in the centre and right there are the Naval Yards, with a new dockyard being finished in the centre.
A vague number 218 has been painted to the negative of the photo (lower left), which style might reveal the maker. Any suggestions?
