Turn round 180 degrees from the clock tower in the previous photo and this was the view - Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry bus terminus in Kowloon. The famous Star Ferry boats run across the harbour to Hong Kong island from behind the building behind the buses.

I don't know what buses run in Hong Kong these days but in 1981 they were all clearly British designs. Not to mention the British weather.

In 1949, the tracks to the Kowloon Wharves are still there. As there are no aerial photos in between, the next one is from 1959. Here the new concourse has alreday been built. 

 

1953 TST Star Ferry

It looks as if the tracks to the Kowloon Wharves have been cut. Date is given as 1953, unclear if this is correct.

Passengers took a short path to the left, past the locomotive turntable, to reach the KCR Terminus.

Taken shortly after my grandparents, Edgar and Kathe de Chaffoy, arrived in Hong Kong. NB First class entry, and stars used in the decorative ironwork.

Star Ferry—Solar Star -1958

Rear of my photo says “Solar Star” arriving at island terminus- March 1958. This terminus looks new? different to the colour postcard l bought in 1957 and uploaded previously of the same terminus. The ferry also looks as though it has been given a refit?, or maybe a new ferry given the old name?

Why was the Night Star's name painted out and the number 555P added?  The other ferry in the background has been treated in the same way. (Andrew S)
