1964 Kowloon Tong

Aerial view of Kowloon Tong showing the area north of Cornwall Street. Ede Road is the road that goes uphill showing government quarters and housing schemes. HSBC's Luso Apartments (Bank flats) are further up on Warwick Road. The military quarters on Pilgrim's Way can be seen on the far left whilst Baptist Hospital established in 1963 can be viewed on the far right. Broadcast Drive is still barren. The road extension from Waterloo Road to the Lion Rock Tunnel (1967) has yet to be connected.

This shows industrial Kowloon.

From the south: Cosmopolitan Docks, Hong Kong Ship Yard, Wing On Shing Shipyard, and the Standard Oil Tank farm and berth.

And ferry piers: Tai Tok Tsui Ferry Pier and Sham Shui Po Ferry Pier.

Approaching Kowloon 1974

This is a good intermediate image. Cosmopolitan docks are already replaced by Cosmopolitan Estate, but Hong Kong Ship Yard still exists.

I think, Sham Shui Po Ferry Pier is just visible near the engine.

Kai Tak airfield under Japanese control

Date picture taken (to nearest decade for older photos):
1944

While there are aerial images of Kai Tak Airport just before WW11 and just after, few aerial images with discernible detail of Kai Tak airfield during the Japanese occupation have surfaced so far. This one has been extracted from a well-known hi-resolution image taken during an air raid by the American 14th Air Force on 16 October 1944.
