Life Theatre / 富都戲院 Formerly Kwun Tong / 觀塘戲院 [1970-2004]

Address: 9 Tung Ming Street, Kwun Tong, Hong Kong.  The current occupant is the Christian Church of Love Kwun Tong.

The original theatre at the site was the Kwun Tong Theatre 觀塘戲院 with a seating capacity of 1,603 (1,005 and 598 first class).  It started operating on October 9, 1970, and was later renamed Life Theatre 富都戲院 on May 1, 1979.  A renovation in 1997 reduced its seating capacity to 462.  Life Theatre was closed on April 11, 2004, and a good part of the retired theatre's exterior remains standing today.

Kwun Chung Theatre / 官涌戲院 [1993-2011]

From discussion by Cinema Treasures, it is noted that the pre-WWII Kwun Chung Theatre was situated at the junction of Jordan Road and Canton Road, and operated during the period about 1931-August 10, 1939.  Subsequently the theatre building was demolished and the site became part of a park.

Kwong Ming Theatre / 光明影戲院 [1932-1964]

An internet search thus far has not been able to identify the seating capcity of Kwong Ming Theatre.  Discussions among the source sites give its address as Public Square Street, and after demolition the site is "currently" occupied by Yau Ma Tei Jockey Club Specialist Clinic (油麻地賽馬會診所).  This places the former theatre at 3 Public Square Street, Yau Ma Tei, Kowloon, Hong Kong.

Kwong Chee Theatre (廣智戲院), reported to be the first theatre built in Kowloon, has an interesting history (please see sources listed below).  Today, the ground where the theatre once stood has undergone significant changes since it was demolished in 1968.

Information on seating capacity is not available from internet search thus far.  Based on information from the sources listed below, Kau Yue Fong Theatre was located on the site currently the Central District Health Centre General Out-Patient Clinic: 1 Kau U Fong, Central, Hong Kong.

Kau Yue Fong Theatre operated during the period September 26, 1911 - August 1, 1949.

Seating capacity: Sources listed below give two different capacities, 747 and 800.

Address: Source documents listed below state that the theatre has been replaced by a supermarket (惠康超級市場), and a recent local government document on summary of meeting related to water quality issued from its office with this address but no street number (Kam Tin Theatre Building, Kam Tin Road, Yuen Long, N.T.).  With these two pieces of information, Google Maps has located the former theatre at 131 Kam Tin Road, Kam Tin, New Territories, Hong Kong.
