Stone Nullah Lane

Hello,

I just came back from Wan Chai and to my surprise I found a lane called Stone Nullah Lane on Johnston Road. I was very surprised to see that name. I though THE STONE NULLAH LANE is situated where the Blue House is located on Queens Road East ?

Any clarifications are highly appreciated, Thank you very much and kind regards,  Daniel

Imperial War Museum Film Archives (AFPU)

The Imperial War Museum has a public archive of WW2 era military film shot by the AFPU (Army Film & Photographic Unit).
This is the home page : https://film.iwmcollections.org.uk/

There is plenty to explore on line here on Hong Kong and other locations of course.  It looks like work in progress as not all the links have a film at the time of this post.  But still worth a browse!

#10 - Duncan George MACPHERSON [1912-1989] (11,896 views)

Duncan began life in a crofters cottage in the Highlands of Scotland, but we meet him much later when he was a policeman in Hong Kong. He spent the Japanese occupation interned in Stanley Camp, where this photo of his wedding was taken:

Road to Repulse Bay and Stanley

Hello,

Can anyone please tell me, when the road to Repulse Bay and the road to Stanley had been built. I read once that there was a small road in the early stage of the colony, but I am not sure if thiat is correct. Moreover I came along of some photographs, marked with 1938 and with the inscription ". ( A New Road is built to Stanley.....)  "?? I haven't downloaded the pictures just yet, but I will send them to you all for further clarification.

Thank you very much for you assistence

KGV School 1962-1964

I was born in Hong Kong in 1948 and  was a pupil at KGV Junion School in the 1950s until I was sent to boarding school in England aged 8.   I then returned to Hong kong and was a pupil at KGV School between 1962-1964.   My name was then Janise Walker and I lived in St Georges Mansions, 141 Argyle Street.   I wondered if there is anyone out there who would remember me and perhaps get in touch via this site if that is possible.

Construction of Roads in Hong Kong in the early 20th century

Let’s start with this photo from likely late 1915, which has been discussed on Gwulo lately. Besides the view of the just finished KCR Terminus building, it reveals a lot about road construction techniques in Hong Kong at the beginning of the 20th century.

1920 Map of Kowloon

A few weeks ago we looked at how the 1920 map of Kowloon was added to Gwulo. Today we'll take a closer look at the map itself, and see what stories it has to tell of early 20th-century Kowloon.

Tsim Sha Tsui (TST)

The start of the 20th century saw huge changes in TST. Here's how it had looked in 1896.

Secret Valley between Tai Hang and Quarry (Eod Depot)

As an avid hiker I stumbled on a trail that leads from Mount Butler Road down to the valley creek which runs in a South Western direction from Tiger Balm to the quarry by Jardine's lookout.

There's a myriad of terraces, relicts, overgrown trails, stairs, which seem to have not been visited for decades. Even the trails from Various map sources were

very hard to find if not existing anymore. We def ended crashing through the undergrowth to reach the creek which wasnt without danger.

1940-softball.jpeg submitted by Stephen Rapley

Stephen Rapley posted a softball team 1940 photo in which were named Geroge Winch, Zimerman brothers etc.  My father is George Winch.

Stephen's father William Rapley was at Diocesan Boys School, I guess they were both at DBS at about the same time.

I was wondering if Stpehen would have anymore photos with, particularly sports related as they seem to play a lot of sports together - particularly cricket; and if he would have any of the  newspaper articles on these sports events.

Thanks very much

Rita Winch
