Now we look into that low tunnel on the right. You can see round holes along the ceiling. I guess these were for drainage, and are the source of all the mud that is in the tunnel. We shuffled through this in a crouch, ending up back at the far end of the tunnel we started in.
Q. What was this low tunnel built for? It doesn’t actually go anywhere, just bringing you back to the main tunnel. There are similar tunnels running around the back of some of the bunkers on Mount Davis. Could they have been built to provide a buffer between the room and the surrounding ground, and so reduce the shock if shells hit that surrounding ground?
