The bottom left photo looks like Waterloo Road before Pui Ching School and Waterloo Hill. Note the open nullah.

Not sure, but I think the Star Ferrys had taller funnels in the 1950's ?

The 50s were a time of change. There where still tall-funnel boats in operation, eg:

But if you look down the fleet list, five new boats were introduced in the second half of the 1950s:
