Abstracted from an album, taken around late 1860 to early 1870.

It was written kowloon dock....but where?

Any clue?

Thanks

Hi. Happily I recognise that view from another difficult photo to place. The mountain on the right is Mt Nicholson, Mt Violet on the left with Wong Nai Chung Gap in the middle. I'd guess therefore that this was on the north eastern side of Kowloon Bay. Given the date, this area would presumably have still been Chinese territory. An old map should help pin point it given the dock appears on a spur of land.

see this photo to compare. http://gwulo.com/node/6905

Judging from the close-up of the hills. perhaps not as far as Kowloon Bay. I would say the eastern corner of Hung Hom Bay looking south.

I tend to agree with Moddsey.

Is it the circled area that Moddsey is referring to ?

Hung Hom Bay

Yes, that would be the area I was thinking about.

I tend to agree with Moddsey too...! Yep Hung Hom makes sense.

Moddsey, I wonder if you meant the peninsula to the right of the circle? The circled one is back in TST by Blackhead point.

Any idea when dockyard work began in the Hung Hom area? Maps from 1888 show a big reclaimed area and proper dockyards, but in this photo the area looks very undeveloped still.
