But what is C.O.D.? Something on delivery? A ton of coal isn't exactly a small amount, so I guess the prices have to be interpreted carefully.

Hi there,

What else could it be except for Cash?  Just one of the common shipping/fowarding terms, I guess, you have other like F.O.B. , C.I.F.... to name a couple of them.

Of course it is!  There must be too much plastic nowadays with all the cards and the Octopus that I forget there is such a way to pay for goods.

Cash On Delivery.

HOP HING. Coal Merchants, Motor Transport Contractors & Stevedores.
439 Hennessy Road.

Fittingly, Wanchai Fire Station now occupies 439 Hennessy Road

Hi there,

The coal dealer is out, but the building housing the Hong Kong & Kowloon Firewood Trade Association is still standing in Jaffe Road near Flemming Road in Wanchai.  The house is sort of old if you look at it in close quarters.

When you see the street view, look for the Jet-Win Electrical Co. Ltd.  That is the building.  If you look up, you should be able to see the Chinese name of the Trade Assocation in black, against the Beige.  Note, th ename is being set in traditional Chinese brush script, which is read from right to left as 會商業柴九港。

I have previously mentioned in another post that this Association appeared to be up and running as it is still being listed as active donors in some charity donor lists a few years ago.

Best Regards,

T
