Tram destination "VICTORIA"

Tram destination "VICTORIA"

Fairly recently there was a question as to when VICTORIA ceased to be used and CENTRAL DISTRICT came into common useage. This 1990s picture taken in the depot of a windblown tram destination roll shows VICTORIA still as a destination, although I don't recall seeing a tram using it in recent years.

Hi there,

Part of the scroll had been obsured.  It should read 'Victoria Park' if you compared with the Chinese line just below it, which reads (園 ... 維) from right to left.

My 2 cents,

Hi there,

the photograph was taken in the 80's as telephone number area code was abolished 30 December 1989.

That "CENTRAL" should be "CENTRAL MARKET" as an emergency junction for reverse. Such black-and-white style had been replaced by 2007 and indicated in few colours. Trams nowadays are gradually modified to new-metal bodies with LED displays.

Thanks for your info. That tram was discarded in early 1990 and replaced by a new-built one.
