Thomas Waller in 1948

Thomas Waller in 1948

This is one of a number of Thomas Edgar's photos with ' Geordy 'Do', H. K. Hotel, 4-3-48' written on the back.

This one also has the comment 'no shortages of liquid food'.

The man raising his glass is Tommy Waller; seated next to him is Evelina Edgar. Thomas Edgar is visible at the front of the picture, turning to talk to the lady on his right.

Does anyone know what this event was?

Or have any more information about Mr. Waller?

Hi Brian, do you mean Tommy Waller is the man in the bow tie, or the man in front of Evelina? Both have raised their glasses!

There appears to be some sort of programme or menu on the table in front of the neare lady, and another copy in the bottom right corner.

I wonder if the event got a write-up in the next day's newspaper?

Regards, David

Hi, David.

Tommy Waller is the man in the bow tie at the far end of the table.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I've looked in the online archive and found nothing.

The first meeting to revive the Association was held. It was recorded that T. Waller was elected as the Hon. Secretary.

The Northumberland and Durham Association Dinner Dance & Concert took place at the Roof Garden of the Hong Kong Hotel.

Thanks, Moddsey. That's really helpful.

Interesting to learn that Bishop Hall was also a Northumberland man.

Brian:  I bet the beer is Newcastle Brown.

Lady on Thomas Edgar's right is Margaret Smith, ex-nursing sister, sitting next to Hugh Smith, Taikoo naval architect. I think Hugh and Margaret were married in Stanley camp.

Many thanks for this, Geoff, I greatly appreciate the information.

Yes, Hugh Smith married Margaret Elizabeth Black on June 26, 1943:
