September 16,1945

I believe this to be a photo of the celebration in Hong Kong Harbor on September 16,1945-the Japanese Surrender. This negative came with a group of others taken by a Red Cross member who was in HK in '45-'46. This celebration was mentioned in Barbara Anslows diary for this day.

Date picture taken (may be approximate):
Sunday, September 16, 1945

This could also be a photo taken on October 9,1945-this day was the Victory Parade, and a display of searchlights and fireworks is mentioned. Most of the bursts in this photo look distinctly like fireworks, and not signal flares. The seller told me he had hundreds of negatives taken by this man, from many theaters of war, and they were all in labeled, dated glassine envelopes. He states this one was in an envelope dated sept. '45. I'm still trying to find out more information about who this man was.
