Similar brick water tanks
Similar brick water tanks were built in strategic positions in towns and cities throughout the UK during WW2. They were identified by the initials EWS (Emergency Water Supply) painted in large yellow letters on their sides. Some were designed to collect rainwater. The tanks were used to supply fire engines and pumps in bombed and Blitz areas.
