Did they also have a naval mine fleet?  Two young brothers I knew in mid-1950s told me they were joining it or something similar.  They sold newspapers and could remember each diner's choice as he entered the restaurant on Boundary St and Yu Chau St .  

There were minesweepers both inshore and motor inesweepers within the original 1948 commisioned Hong Kong Flotilla. These were de-commissioned about 1954, and that left just ten Armed Motor Launches ( Six "Short" Boats and four "Long Boats" ) manned by British European Ratings for the most part, until 1957 then locally enlisted Royal Naval Chinese ratings gradually became the major part of the crews with European Senior Ratings and with a European Commisioned Commanding Officer.
