This was probably towards the western end of the Des Voeux Road, looking East.

Here is another photo of the place from the opposite direction i.e. looking west. One can see the tram coming out from Clevery street and heading east. One can see on the right  part of the sign of 金桃酒樓 (golden peach restaurant) with red characters and blue  background. Further away is sign of 西宛海鮮酒家 (west villa restaurant) with white characters and blue background. On the left is 正大參茸行 sign with white characters and red background. It was a ginseng shop at  310 des voeux central  according to a 1980 directory.  Behind that sign, one can see a smaller  sign of a pawn shop. All thses signs can be seen in your photo.

The pawn shop and ginseng shop were neighbors. Following link shows both of the store fronts together:
