Applicants - if any - would probably have been aged 55 years of age or older!
This is the last time I saw the word 'boy' used in this way - I was so astonished to see it in the SCMP - I would guess it was in the mid 1990's - that I photo-copied it. Old timer Chinese friends can recall when they were summoned by their bosses this way as in "Boy, come here".
