Tadpole Pond, Mount Austin

This is the pond just below Moun t Austin playground. WhenI lived at Mount Austin mansions, and later Peak Mansions, between 1964-71 it was known to the local children as 'Tadpole Pond' and was our "special secret place". I have not been back since 1980, but when my Godson was in HK a few weeks ago I got him to find it for me, and to my great joy i has not been concreted over.

As a child my friends and I were told that the pond had been built by the Japanese during the war years to be a source of water for military vehicles. Does anyone have any firther information on this?
