I think this is the view down towards, what was to become, Shek Pik reservoir from (maybe) Bird Rock area.

Greetings.  May I make a wild guess.  This was taken from your / friend's travel along the train route except from a much higher elevation compared to your other NT photos.  It looks like there is a road or rail close to the water.  This would place the camera on Tai Po Road looking to the east with Tai Po station on the left and out of photo.  I am sure experts here will soon confirm or correct me.  Regards,  Peter  (Ooop, sorry, slow finger, Phil (above) has corrected me, Thanks.)

Hi There,

Very likely the photographer was somewhere atop the Ngong Ping area, close to present day Bernacchi Trail, (a short curvey section of it could be seen on the left hand side of the photo) below Kau Nga Ling, overlooking the Shek Pik area.  I wonder if there are other Lantau photos before and after this one.

If it was taken in the 1950's the time frame seem to match.

Thank you all for the suggestions. So was it up in the New Territories or, as Tim suggests, maybe on Lantau? Andrew

It's definitely looking down at Shek Pik, pre-reservoir, just not quite sure on where the cameraman was.

Sorry, it is on Lantau - I didn't recognise the place names as being there.  In 1981 my wife and I walked down a track from the tea garden beside the monastery and I have a feeling that this was one of the views that I photographed to include the reservoir - but, annoyingly, I cannot now find them!  I'll change the title in accordance with your comments. Andrew

The Shek Pik scene today as seen here . About the same position.
