I'm uploading this photo of the crew of H31 dated 1927, as it chimes in with David's photo of it in Vol 3 of his new book. WR Fell is here commanding H31 and is seated centre. The photo is actually in his 1928-1929 album. I wonder if it was taken in England before sailing for Hong Kong and the China coast, as the tree behind has no leaves.

Two different H31s
Realizing that the photo of H31's crew that I had uploaded was very crooked, I asked David if he could replace it with the one above. David gently pointed out that the H31 shown in dry dock in his book (Photo 13, p. 66) is the surface ship, HMS Sterling, although there was indeed an H-class submarine with the same designation operating at the time https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_H31 I fear that the above photo may have no relevance to Hong Kong, although I haven't been able to verify whether HM Submarine H31 was never there. Apologies for the confusion.
