Hi Tunster.This is my photo of Queen Victoria Memorial, and gardens. the rear of photo says -Victoria Memorial and Gardens Colombo Ceylon 26-2-57.- taken while on 4 hrs shore leave when HMT. Nevasa anchored in the Harbour to take on supplies etc.  This matches your dads photo although taken from a different angle. Perhaps one of the forum members will tell us if these gardens are still remain today. Bryan Panter.

Was last in Colombo in 2011. The statue is no longer in the gardens but has been relocated. Some information here
