A blow-up of the same photo showing the Reclamation Ground and Garden Theatre at Wanchai can be viewed here Circa 1932

Apparently the Tonnochy pier did not even have a roof. The Gloucester road nearby was so empty. Where are Gilman Motors and the police station? The above picture looks more like 1930s than 1950s or even earlier.

Hi There,

The tower of Lee Theatre could be seen thus it must be sometime after 1925.  Lee Gardens was still covered with trees thus must be pre WWII.  Most trees would have been cut down as firewood during the occupation.

Another clue is the Causeway bay typhoon shelter. The picture was taken before 1950 before the old Causeway Bay shelter was filled in to become the victoria park. The shelter was moved out to the present day's victoria park road which is just an extension of the Gloucester road.

Also notced the huge building British-American Tobacco Factory and Office was missing. So the picture was taken before 1935.

If one is to get real about the photo date, it's from the early

1930s. One needs to look at Southorn Playground before it became it became a playground as mentioned above.

I've updated the title from "Wan Chai 1950's.jpg"

Found this picture of Wanchai from a facebook page dated july 21, 2020 with the label 1930s. Apparently it is the same as the picture here.
