At PTS you were responsible for 32 constables. Their turnout, parade, drill, marksmanship. You ALWAYS keep an inside man sweet, he looks out for the others and if any had problems, girlfriends, wife, kids, drugs, AWOL then he was the one who told you and you took it on to solve the problem. If they went AWOL it could get serious, you should know the reason why and where he is now and try to get him back before the next muster parade and he was found out. Usually a young married man in PTS wondering who is with his young lady as he is away and they get so worked up they have to find out and go AWOL. You then hunt him down with your inside man and get him re-assured, secure and safely back before it does get serious. Even to the point of you attending parade next morning and then classes all day, without sleep having been rescuing all night. Rewarding time as my constables stayed with me until we passed out. I now present to you my faithful Mr. Yau. Who found out all cared for all and trusted me with the info. We were in it together and that bound us. Others didn't cultivate their responsibilities and their relationship with the rank and file went to pot. Why? we are all human and rely on each other. Am I getting sentimental in my old age.
