Squatter Huts, 'H' Blocks & Early Resettlement Blocks - late 1960's.

Can't recall the exact location, but taken in the late 1960's.

Could be Wong Tai Sin or perhaps Ngau Tau Kok ?

Perhaps the small pagoda in the centre foreground may provide a clue ?

Harryhktc,

I reckon you were correct first time with Wong Tai Sin.

I think the three identical buildings in the mid-right of the photo are the Mark II H Blocks of Wong Tai Sin Lower Estate, with the factory buildings of San Po Kong rising in the distance behind them. To the left of the H Blocks, in the middle and left of the photo are the taller blocks of Wong Tai Sin Upper Estate. Running between the Upper and Lower Estates should be Lung Chung Road, but it’s hardly visible.

If so, that would put you up in the hills somewhere around Tsz Wan Shan.

Amongst the small squatter huts are a few which are much longer. I’ve got a feeling they contained communal washing facilities. Can anyone remember?

Thanks for that, gw, and yes - the longer huts seem more substantial than the others so, as you suggest, were probably built by the USD to provide washing facilities for the squatters.

H.

Could the long buildings amongst the squatters be Transit Housing rather than huge washing facilities?

Guess these houses are shown on the b/w image, too. I'm not sure of the date, possibly 1970's to 1980's.

Judging from the style of the cars and the number plates, maybe mid to late 70s?

Those building on the right are Lower Wong Tai Sin Estate and those in the middle are Upper Wong Tai Sin Estate. They are seperated by Lung Cheung Road which can be seen clearly in the picture. The large building on the left is called East-South-West-North building which is the tallest building in Upper Wong Tai Sin Estate.
