Compare with the two similar photographs in my 1957/8 folder. The theatres were erected on the same spot at the western end of the car park. Is this still an annual event?

Hi Andrew,
This is likely an annual event celebrating the birthday of a loca deity Tin Hau, the goddess of the sea. This does not limit to Shek O. Wherever there is a Tin Hau Temple, there may be such an event nearby on lunar calender the 23rd day of the third moon.
