56 Fld Sqn camp at Tai Lam

56 Field Squadron Royal Engineer camp at Tai Lam New Territories. As well as training we were a fully working Squadron within 24 Field Engineer Regiment Royal Engineers doing a lot of work for the community in the New Territories.

The date the photo was taken was mid 1956 early '57. The motor pool was to the right of the photo as looked at and the officers mess was over to the left. The Gordon Hard was to the right centre of the camp.

Was it not 54 Independent Field Squadron, the name Spike Winn rings a bell

54 Fld Sqn RE was down the road from 56 Fld Sqns Gordon Camp, about 5/600 yards. When 24 Field Engineer Regiment returned to blighty in July 1957 they left 54 Fld Sqn Re as 54 Ind Fld Sqn RE in Tai Lam camp.  I transferred from 56 to 54 Ind Sqn. The Gurkhas took over Gordon's camp.
