Braemar Reservoir - No. 5 Dam

Braemar Reservoir - No. 5 Dam
Authors:

Braemar Reservoir was developed to supply water to the Taikoo Sugar Refining Company Limted. The reservoir has long disappeared but the No. 5 Dam still exists in Choi Sai Woo Park - rusting iron pipes and an imposing gateway with the company name and the year 1894 inscribed.

Great find. Did you go in the tunnel? From the aerial photos taken in 1963 there is an water intake tower on the top of the dam directly uphill from the dam. I wonder if any of the tower still survives

Cheers, I didn't take a look inside, I suspect the tunnel doesn't go far, just pipes from the reservoir. I didn't see a water intake tower above the dam but it's possible there is something up the hill, there is an upper part to Choi Sai Woo Park that I didn't go up to.

That is a great find - I didn't know there was any trace of the old reservoir still there. Thanks for posting!

Thanks David, I'm very happy to contribute!

Cheers
Scott

That's super nice!

I'm planning to go tomorrow morning if anyone's interested to join.

If you get any good views of what's inside the tunnel, please could you upload them for us to see?

That's my plan! Heading now

Great stuff! - thanks for the pics.
