Three HYF ferries, no exact location given. My first thought was Kennedy Town, but I don't think it is.

Any better ideas?

Hi Klaus,

By the look of the squattered huts on the rocky slopes, it's more likely Sai Wan Ho.  Need some time to match up the taller buildings as some of them are likely still around.  Maybe matching up the slopes too.

Thanks & Best Regards,

T

Hi Klaus,

The tallest building by the right hand side, if compared to the recent day Google Maps, at least the shape and the windows look very much like the Hoi Ching Mansion in Hoi Ching Street.  That also matched the location of the old pier.  The building is a bit over 40 years old, which also seem to match the 1970's.  Will have to look up land registrations for the actual date.

I would declare very possibly Sai Wan Ho.

Thanks & Best Regards,

T

Hi T,

thank's for helping. I was wondering about the slope of the mountain so close to the shore, but the photo was taken before reclamation started in this area. Will rely on your expertise when I discover more photos of  ferry piers.

Best regards, Klaus

There's another image in the set that shows the view to the left and the breakwater of the typhoon shelter, which matches with an image that T has identified previously.   https://gwulo.com/atom/11635

Hi Marlowe,

That is generally of the same neighbourhood.  Sai Wan Ho should just be a little beyond the right edge of the 1966 photo.  Now that you brought it up, there are some identical buildings in both photos too.

Thanks & Best Regards,

T
