Hongkong Land joined with Jardines, Trust House Forte, The Bank of East Asia Limited, British Airways, City Hotels Limited and The Hong Kong Shanghai Bank, to develope Marine Lot 52 for the Exclesior Hotel.
The construction of the Hotel was completed in the summer of 1972 which coincided with the opening of the first cross harbour tunnel, the World Trade Centre would soon be built next door on the site of the remaining Jardines godown. Hongkong Land had a 26% interest in East Point Hotels Ltd, the owners of The Excelsior.
