In the background it looks like a quarry. This could be the Government Quarry at Tsat Tsz Mui (or Quarry Point).

The photographer's ship (President Cleveland) was at Taikoo Dockyard for repair.

The culvert-like structure in the foreground of the original photo may be the structure on the small hill below.
