Raymond Smith/ Grace Smith/ Rita Smith
Good Day John: I was wondering if Rita Winifred Smith was the daughter of Grace Rosa Smith (and therefore sister to Raymond)? Rita had a child born in November 1941 who was in camp with Rita. Rita and son Andrew G. S. Smith were in American Quarters (Block 3 (A3) and had a servant's room (SQ2). Usually given to mother's and babies and popular as they provided privacy whereas others shared their quarters. Grace was also in American Quaters but in Block 2 Room 21. Grace shared with four others (Mrs Basargin, Mrs Donaldson and Mr & Mrs Moss) Grace's 'declared friend' who would have in herited her no doubt meagre possessions was Cecil Clifford Crofton whose son Clifford married Tamara Jex in Camp. The portrait may have been done by Joe Savitsky - did it ever find its way to Raymond Walter Smith - who fought with Hughes Group at HKEC power station at North Point. The diaries and pics were most interesting especially the matsheds on Tweed Bay Beach (very close to where I live in Stanley). Philip Cracknell
Raymond Smith
Dear Philip,
Thank you for getting in touch. I am sorry to disappoint, but Raymond was an only child, so there is no connection. Good luck with your further research.
