Wong Tung & Partners were the selected by Hongkong Land as Architects after a design competition.
In 1988 site clearance involved the demolition of three Hongkong Land buildings to form one unique triangular site, Holland House, Fu House and The Bank of Canton Building. The distinctive podium clock tower located at the Ice House street corner had a very distinguishing clock tower incorporating a glockenspiel as well as the bells that rung out tunes, there were 12 wonderful sculptured and brightly painted figurines representing the Chinese zodiac that rotated around inside the lantern. The glockenspiel was designed and built by Dutch Royal Bellfounders Petit & Fritsen (founded in 1660).
Hongkong Land agreed to sell the building to a consortium of Hong Kong and Mainland China-based companies in May 1992 for US$491 million.
