The stories of tigers in Hong Kong are very well documented in the old newspaper clippings.
This is one of the best photographs a tiger killed in the New Territory after killing an Indian Constable on the 8th March 1915 as reported in The Hongkong Daily Press which also featured the measurements as being:
Length from tip to tip - 8ft 6"
Height - 3ft 4"
Girth - 3ft 7"
Tail 3ft
Weight - 289lbs
It will be realised that the tiger was a very fine specimen. It was about three years old, of a Southern orign and in very good condition. When the body had been strung up in an approved fashion it was photographed along with Messrs. Burlignton and Martin and the Captain Superintendent of Police. It was taken to City Hall where hundered of persons visited.
