More pictures from family archive. Are these of interest to HK military specialists or are they from elsewhere?

Seems most likely to me that they were taken in HK in First World War.

Thanks,

Sean

hard to tell the location. Terrain is flat, suggesting (but not ruling out) that it's not Hong Kong. The first cannon is quite distinctive; fixed mounted and guessing a howitzer. You can see the wheel for raising the elevation. The second shot shows ranks of mobile cannon with fabricated shelters. Pinning down the manufacturer - ie German, British artillery etc - would help point the way to the rough location in China. Must be some cannon experts out there!

Thanks 80skid. Might be useful to tell you that my family also had homes in Canton and Shanghai. Might help Gwulo's resident cannon expert. They also visited Singapore fairly regularly.

If you zoom in on the lower photo, in the background you can see the gun & building shown in the upper photo.

The reports about the volunteers from that time say they were using 7-pounder and 64-pounder RML guns.

Here's what I found on the internet for those: 7-pounder, 64-pounder. The guns in this photo don't look like either of those.
