Iris and Cyril Gaby.jpg

Date picture taken (to nearest decade for older photos):
1934

This photo was taken of Iris and Cyril Gaby just after their wedding at the Catholic Cathedral on 6th October 1934. I'm not sure if it is outside the cathedral itself. Iris must be in her "going away" clothes, as there is also a photo of her in her wedding dress on the way to her wedding. A press notice says that the honeymoon was to be spent at the Repulse Bay Hotel, so not far away! The photo comes from the Gaby family collection courtesy their chronicler, Stuart Preddy.

Places shown in this photo:

The bridesmaid on the left of Ron Brooks is his sister, Doris Brooks, and on the right of Helene is her older sister, Henriette Caudron.  The flower girl is her younger sister, Jacqueline.

MacPherson-Brooks Wedding 1943, Stanley Prison Camp, police

Date picture taken (to nearest decade for older photos):
1943

The Wedding of Doris Brooks and Duncan MacPherson (Sgt in HK Police) in Stanley Internment Camp, Hong Kong, on 9th June 1943 during WWII.  The mother of Doris, Emily Brooks, and her brother, Roland (Ron) Brooks, were also interned in the camp. It was also the birthday of Ron Brooks.

Wartime wedding

Date picture taken (to nearest decade for older photos):
1942

The wedding of Thomas Edgar and Evelina d'Oliveira, June 29, 1942.

Thomas Edgar was a baker, and not at that time interned in Stanley. Evelina was Portuguese, but voluntarily entered Stanley when Tom was interned in 1943.

The Japanese man in the photo is almost certainly Lieutenant Tanaka (not the Tanaka who was executed for war crimes), a man whose helpfulness to Allied prisoners was recorded by Selwyn Selwyn-Clarke.

The church I believe to be St. Joseph's.
