To get his photos developed my dad used to go this shop at 369 Nathan Road, Kowloon

An interesting view of the changing appearance of TST. With the old Chungking Arcade knocked down, the Astor Hotel can be seen at centre right at Carnarvon Road/Cornwall Avenue. Up Nathan Road, the Mirador Mansion is being constructed. Towards the right, looks like the Far East Mansion is being built.

I don't know which street this is. I found the image among my dad's photos of the Tiger Balm Garden, so it's possible that he took a bus to the gardens and snapped this photo before or after his visit.

When I was growing up, my mum used Tiger Balm ointment as a 'cure-all' for everything from tummy ache, to headaches, to sprained ankles!

The ointment was created by brothers Aw Boon Par and Aw Boon Haw from their father's recipe. When the latter built Har Paw Mansion as his family's residence, he created an adjoining private landscaped garden. This was subsequently opened to the public as Tiger Balm Garden and which served to promote the brand that became a household name in Hong Kong.

A tableau dedicated to monkeys reflects their importance in Chinese culture and folklore. These popular animals are still widely used in contemporary commercial marketing as symbols of wisdom, positivity and happiness.
