Private weather stations in Hong Kong 1842 onwards

I wonder if anyone has any records, stories, diaries or any other source of information refering to private meteorological stations in Hong Kong other than the Royal/Hong Kong Observatory and if so,were there records ever published? And if so,where?

Thank you.

Protecting Hong Kong Names

Hi all,

For years(actually from childhood) I can't help but notice that there is a lot of confusion on the geographic divisions of neighbourhoods in Hong Kong. The more research I did, the more I have found there has been a vast amount of manipulation from the Establishment (real estate developers, the government, the MTRC, etc.) on our perception of this space that we live in. It is chaotic and full of contradictions at the moment, and actions should taken to protect our heritage.

Giant stick-insects in Hong Kong

I have today read about a giant stick insect seen in Hong Kong by a Mt Nicholson bird watcher, Clive Viney,in 1988 that measured 12 inches long and a leg to leg measurement of 22cm. The body length of 12 inches is just 2 inches short of the world record of 14 inches, also in China.

Does anyone have any similar stories of giant HK stick insects?

HONG KONG POLICE MAGAZINE

I was at the British Library in London in late May `15 looking through their collection of the Hong Kong Police Magazine from the early 1950s to 1970. It provided a fascinating and often humourous glimpse into colonial  policing during that era. It was also bi-lingual but I cannot read Chinese. I was actually looking for unusual fauna-related stories and I wasn`t disappointed, I found an account of a Chinese Giant Salamander which I vaguely have a memory of seeing before but it was good to see again.

Early Plastic Industry in Hong Kong

My late father, YOUNG Sze Kuen,( also known as Anthony Norman ) joined ICI Hong Kong in the late 1930s and early 1940s. Then he, and my late mother Annie Lam Young ,started a company named Yuen Hing Hong & Co. Ltd. (YHH) in the 1940s.
