Yau Ma Tei reclamation starts

Date picture taken (to nearest decade for older photos):
1992

View from the peak onto Yau Ma Tei area. Reclamation has started already. I think on the left side there is a ship that pumps sand (or at least a sand/water slurry) from the bottom of the harbour onto the new created island.

I think it's getting more and more tricky for the Jordan Road ferries to get out here.

Yau Ma Tei Market & Bus #12 -1950s

Bus #12 followed by likely #4 travelling southbound on Shanghai Street, just passed (Edit April 21 as per readers' comments) Public Square Street.  Note the one-way sign and the shadow cast by the bus.   The tea restaurant was the sight from my daily bus ride in 1950-51 to school.

YauMaTei-Aerial  油麻地.jpg

Starting from the lower right corner -boats and Yau Ma Tei Shelter, Ferry Street now in name only due to land reclamation, a bit up along the right edge was the two-storey police station, next the white-wall red-roof building with one row of windows the Kwong Ming 光明 Theatre, and connected to it Tai Yat  第一 Theatre.  Both theatres closed in 1964 so this photo was taken prior, more likely in 1950s (please correct if not).  This photo shows many places of interest.  OldTimer.  Source: Discuss.com.hk

I am new this web site, i noticed there was no image of the Liberty Theatre Yau Ma Tei in the grand data base you have here, well here is one I own....

Yau Ma Tei Pumping Station - Still there...!

Image (external):

You can clearly see the remaining structure of the pumping station, once the engineers office and now associated with the nearby Cantonese opera held at Yau Ma Tei theatre.

Funny to think they were going to tear it down because no one knew what the original purpose of the building was...

There's no date given but I'd guess c.1900.

I wonder if the AMO has even seen this photo - from UK national archives...
