In the 1950s the British Rank Organisation made the film Ferry to Hong Kong. The storm scenes were filmed at Aberdeen using a mock-up of the ferry and two aeroplanes from the Far East Flying School at Kai Tak to provide the wind and water chutes to simulate waves. Orson Welles stars as Cecil Hart, captain of the eponymous ferry to Hong Kong.
