Cemeteries in Hong Kong

This is a resource page for people researching the history of a person that died in Hong Kong. Since many of Hong Long's old paper records have been destroyed, grave headstones may be the only remaining record of a person's life and death.

Here's a list of cemeteries in Hong Kong, plus a map of their locations. Click on any cemetery name for more information about it.

Exhibition til Monday - Maps & photos of old Hong Kong

Wattis Fine Art have a free exhibition at the Rotunda in Exchange Square (it's up the escalator at the same level as the lift lobby).

I went along on Wednesday evening, and there's lots to see if you like looking at old Hong kong stuff. It's on until next Monday, 1st Nov.

This is the latest Jurors List we're making searchable - here's how to join in, it'll only take around 20-30 minutes of your time.

The job is to take the previous year's list, then work through it page-by-page and edit in any changes so it matches this year's list.

Step 1. Check the comments below to see which was the last page someone has started typing. You'll work on the next page. eg if the last comment is 'started page 304', you'll be working on page 305.

1902 Jurors List

[The list has been typed up by volunteers: Carla, David, Grace, and Sean. Please help us type up the lists from other years - it takes less than 30 minutes to finish a page. Click here for details.]

Royden House - The last hockey team member

Anybody here was with the last hockey team?  I think I still have the bronze medal somewhere.

BTW I attended the school for 1 year only so I am not surprise if anyone remembered.

這裡有誰是與最後曲棍球隊?我仍然有銅牌的某個地方。

順便說一句,我參加了學校一年只所以我不會感到驚訝,如果還有人記得。

Public Records Office - Hospital Research

There are nine pages that show source information for some private hospitals.  It is a bit fiddly to link to them on the PRO website, so this is an aid.  Click on the graphic to jump to the document.

Pictures wanted

Hi, I'm writing an historical book on Hong Kong (yes, another!) and urgently after pictures of Sir Shouson Chow and Sir Robert Kotewall. Also any pix of the Stanley POW camp, British prisoner Franklin Gimsom and Japanese Military Governor Rensuke Isogai. Can anyone help steer me in the right direction

Cheung Chau Boundary Stones

Folks,

During yesterday's gathering a brief chat about the boundary stones in Cheung Chau was brought up.

Here's what I found on the Net.  This group of people already have them mostly figured out.  They have a photo album with maps.

If you have never seen any of these it would seem fit for a day trip following their lead.

Best Regards,

1933 proposed redevelopment of Government Hill

Our story begins in 1881 when it was discovered that the Hong Kong Ice Company did not have title to the property the Ice House was on.  It was simply paying $1 per year in exchange for storing and providing ice to the public.
