And those two pics [I've merged them into a single panorama. MrB] of TST, any idea on the rooftop of which building were these photos taken?

I guess it was either from the Penninsular Hotel or the YMCA building, the only two tall buildings at that time. I don't remember any tall buildings east of these two. I tried aligning up in the straight line the various objects on the GoogleEarth photo but the result will be way off because the camera was not vertically above the straight line. I have a question: Is the clock tower always at its original site, even after its renovation and area redevelopment? Onetimer

I have another suggestion. I think it might be the Kowloon Hotel near the Star Theatre.

Taking into consideration the angle and all I would have to agree with you.

I've received several photos of the area at different times (1930s, 1950s, 1950s, 1960s). The sender believes the above photo was taken from the Peninsula.

I also looked at this arial photo from 1945, and I agree. It looks as though the photo was taken from a room at the North end of the Peninsula. I think you can see the window frame down the left edge of the photo.

It also looks as though this was a wintertime photo, as there is smoke coming from one of the YMCA's chimneys.

I share your view on where the photo was taken. As far as I know the Clock Tower has never been moved dispite the many changes around.

I was there in the 50's - and again last year.  The Clock Tower hasn't moved, although everything else around it has.
