Maybe General Leman? A Belgian war hero in WW1.

As part of the decorations, venetian poles were erected and encircled in red  cloth and carried shields and cluster of flags of the triumphant nations. On the shields were the names of British and Allied Admirals and Generals e.g. Haig, Petain, Sims etc
