Wellington St. / English School

Wellington St. / English School

This picture was taken 1907. There is a draper´s shop to the right and two hatters to the left. Looking up you see a sign that reads: "English School". Has anybody any idea for a localisation?

Date picture taken (may be approximate):
Tuesday, January 1, 1907

Similar scene. Note the buildings on the left.

1900s Wellington St

Thanks moddsey, I agree. You posted another postcard of 1880s Wellington St. (node/5480) looking West. Are we looking to the West or the East on the 1907 picture? And: Can anyone read the Chinese letters on the sign for the English School?

For the English school - the sign reads day and night 'English School'.

As for the street, my guess is that one is looking at Wellington St facing West.

Actually the sign reads "日夜英文義學"

which literally means "Day and Night English Free School"

The same was written vertically on the middle sign hanging at the lower level.
