1937 Coronation Night
The illuminations were switched on at 8 p.m. on 12 and 13 May 1937. The photo above records the time as just after 8 p.m.. The large lettering " God Save The King" were erected and strung along May Road. To the right of the clocktower, is the aircraft carrier HMS Eagle.
