The railway's title in the poster is the reverse to that with it was commonly known in Hong Kong until its takeover by the MTR in recent years. One building depicted looks more Japanese/Korean than Chinese so the poster designer may have been from overseas and never set foot in China.

Hi there,
I didn't see this until today.
Actually, the rectangular building with the traditional tiled roof is a famous landmark in Guangzhou. That is called 五層樓 (The Five Story Block) by common people. Its official name is Zhanhailou (鎮海樓). Looked very Chinese to me.
