It looks like the two ships in the photo are being dismantaled/scrapped. Is this possibly Tsuen Wan area across from Tsing Yi?

If I recall correctly there was also a ship scrapping venture in Penny Bay where Disney World is now located.

I think the most striking feature is the long embankment connecting the island.

What is it? An anchorage?

The long embankment or possibly causeway also caught my eye. I have tried to look at old HK photos and maps of the Castle Peak area ie: between Lantau Island and the mainland but have not seen anything similar.

The only long embankment or causeway I know of in that area is the one to Pearl Island. But am not sure if the hills in the background match up.

You could be right, with what you see in the back ground being the hills behind Butterfield Bay/Castle Peak Bay. The photo being taken from around Sam Shing Hui.

Hi there,

If the island was Pearl Island, the view just did not look right.  If you are standing on Pearl Island, you should be able to see the sea on three sides are very wide.  Not like this photo.

My 2 cents,
