I think you are right but as it was my first time in Hong Kong I didn't know the names of places at that time!

Yes, that was Sandy Bay before the redevelopment into HKU Sports Centre. I believe the low buildings by the rights was (and istill is) The Duchess of Kent Children's Hospital. I think those blocks along Bisney Drive are also visible,

Interesting. I never thought that the HKU pitches today were paddy fields before.
A couple of observations:
Scenic Villa on the left must have been newly completed when the photo was taken.
From the orientation and the distance, the photo seems to have been taken not from the Peak, but more like somewhere on Mt Davies.

Likely somewhere up on the slopes of the High West. The line of sight seemed to be pointing that way anyway.
Yes, High West seems to be the correct orientation.
