The above photo appeared in the HK Telegraph dated 3 March 1938. The caption says "Sir Edward Ellington, Inspector General of the RAF, recently reviewed the above battery, here seen in action." Upon checking, Ellington arrived in Hong Kong in late January 1938.

Would tend to think that the film reel and photo were of the same event. A screenshot of the Battery and soldier on the right appears to support the comparison.
