Hi Franwall,

Thanks for adding your pics which I find very interesting.

I think your parents place at 359 The Peak was half of a residential building with the address 358-9 The Peak and called "Red Hill". There is a "Place" for it at http://gwulo.com/node/5185 with some more photos. Is that your understanding?

Regards,

GW

Hello GW You are quite right – there were two houses although the postal address was 359 even though our house (358) was alongside Severn Road where all the post was delivered. It would have been difficult for the postman to reach 359 because of the steep winding driveway/walkway leading down to it from Pollock’s Corner. In fact, the garages for both houses were accessed via that driveway as cars could not park on Severn Road alongside our house. My father was Chief Engineer & Deputy GM whereas in the next-door house (359) lived the GM (C.S.Johnston at the time). They shared a large terraced hillside garden opposite 359 where my father spent much of his spare time, ably assisted by the Tramways employed Fah Wong (gardener) – they really had it good in those days! We had a tennis court below the houses where I spent many happy hours – although it never got me to Wimbledon! I hope this comment will be of interest. Best Regards - Frank Waller
